The ant dance belongs to a proud lineage: viral animal videos, the internet's most reliable source of joy. From the earliest shared clips to today's algorithm-driven trends, here's how animals became the internet's favorite performers.
Viral video culture was built on animals. Skateboarding dogs, surprised cats, and dramatic hamsters proved that the internet's favorite content was never about production value — it was about perfect, unpredictable moments.
As platforms matured, animal clips got their own genres: satisfying content, rescue stories, and remix culture. The ant dance sits at the intersection of all three — a satisfying animal clip that was destined to be remixed.
Animals are unselfconscious. Whatever they're doing, they're doing it completely — which is why the ants in the ant dance look more committed than any human dancer on the internet.
